    YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOMEE

great gallery! this really inspires me to sculpt.

in fact I'm grabbing at the clay as we speak :)

P.S. I'm going to make my first bust...and I'v only done one hand sculpture (not uploaded yet). I want to make it life size, do you have any tips? should I put wire in it or foam to stabilize it? Should I practice more before I tackle something that big?

I have no clue about sculpture and the 3-d teacher at my school just says "why don't you just make a cast"....so I'm the only loser at my school that actually sculpts their own stuff instead of making casts. :)

what type of clay are you using? wet or sculpey or oil based? i usually make a wire armature with aluminum foil or foam for a filler. but make sure your armature is satble and wont stick out of the clay surface when you're done. lol and good for you for being the tru artist in your school! your work is great! keep it up! and please go to a school that teaches realism, because you have a ton of potential!

thanks a lot, and yea I'm attempting to find a school that will teach realism.

well I'm using oil based clay (the gray one) the same i used for this: [link] I know that self drying mud clays might be better but I'm slow so I need something that won't dry on me. (I'll take at least 3 weeks) I cut up some foam yesterday and stuck it together with glue and wire. I put less foam on the bottom so I would have more clay there to stabilize the structure...but I'm not sure if thats right. were should I have more foam? on the head so I doesn't plop of? I'll try to upload a picture of it so you can tell me it it looks right. I think it looks ridiculous but I'v never seen a "good" foam base before so I would not know. In my hand sculpture I just stabalized the fingers with tooth picks hehehe.

for a bust or figure (especially a bust) it is good to have a wood base and flange with stell piping.
